Yogurt Pots....Turned Into Amazing Rhubarb&Blackberry Candles!

Today, when I was on my way to throw away an empty yogurt pot, I realised that I can actually use those for something. It wasn't long until I realised that those little glass pots can be turned into amazing little candles for home decor or amazing DIY gifts.

Since, this year the Emaze Brand has expanded by making Luxurious Handmade Candles, it is fair to say that we know a bit about how to make candles :) However, If you are a beginner in the DIY candle projects, you should first read this post that I find very helpful, as it has a lot of pictures that will guide you through the whole process.

It is important to be noted that I used La Laitiere Yogurt pots that are available for sale in France and UK, however, I am sure there are plenty of other brands worldwide that offer yogurt in glass pots.

So, the first step is to paint the jars. I used spray paint to paint them from the inside. Having experience in painting glass, I would definitely recommend painting glass from the inside, as it prevents from damaging the colour from outside. I have noticed that when you spray-paint glass  from outside, the paint gets scratched easily when in touch with other objects. The pots need around 3-4 hours to dry.

After the pots are dry, I start melting the soya wax. I use CB Advanced Soya Wax that I melt until it reaches 83 degrees celsius. I add the dye chip, I put the melting pot away from the stove and I wait until the temperature has decreased to 65 degrees celsius to add the scent.

Before pouring the wax, I place the wicks by securing them with glue or sticky paper to the bottom of the pot. Finally, I pour the liquid wax into the pots. It takes around 5 hours for the wax to harden.  If you wish you can use some washi-tape to decorate the candles.

What you need?
I just wanted to note that I bought all my materials from here. Although I live in France, I find it very hard to find good candle supplies at reasonable prices, that is why I buy all supplies from the UK.

  • Yogurt pots or any other glass container
  • Spray paint
  • Soya Wax
  • Wicks
  • Glue
  • Melting Pot
  • Fragrance
  • Thermometer for cooking
  • Wooden spoon
  • Washi tape

I hope you have enjoyed this simple candle DIY idea! Have a lovely weekend!

Carrier Oil Chart for Your DIY Skin and Hair Treatments

Amazing Sweet Orange & Citron Body Scrub

The expensive sugar scrubs you see in stores actually cost pennies to and really easy to make at home! Salt and sugar body scrubs are very simple beauty recipes and most importantly they are incredibly moisturising and
exfoliate the skin deeply. Exfoliating helps to rejuvenate the skin by removing the dead skin layer and leaves the skin smoother and fresher.

Since it is the end of the summer and most of us have been exposing to the sun regularly, we decided to post another DIY body scrub that will nourish deeply your skin. However this time we decided to make sugar-based scrub, as sugar tends to be more gentle to the skin and we chose carrot oil as a carrier.

Carrot oil is very rich in antioxidants that help to prevent and even repair skin damage from sun, poor nutrition and harsh environment. Its nutrients include beta carotene, Vitamins A and E and provitamin A.

This body scrub will nourish deeply your skin, while the sweet orange and citron essential oils make your skin smell divine for hours!

Ingredients:

200g Regular or Brown Sugar
50ml Carrot Oil
Sweet Orange Essential Oil
Citron Essential Oil
2-3 drops of food colouring (optional)

How to Make It?

Put the sugar in a mixing bowl, add the carrot oil and mix well. Add 3-4 drops of sweet orange essential oil and 2-3 drops of citron essential oil. Add food colouring (red and yellow to get orange) and mix well, until the colour is even throughout.

The Best DIY Hair Mask To Grow Your Hair Fast

As hair can be your best accessory, I decided to write about this miracle hair mask that I have been doing for years now. I think that great hair frames your face and shows off your best features. However, healthy, fabulous hair is not easy to maintain, especially in the summer.  This mask is ideal if you want to grow healthy hair fast or if you want to maintain your already long hair.

This hair mask is very simple to make, 100% natural and the results are astonishing!

I will divide the instructions in two, depending on the results you want to achieve.

If you have good "hair" genes and your hair is generally healthy, but you need to fortify it or you started loosing hair due to stress or other factors, you will need to apply the mask once per week for 2 months. If you don't have good "hair" genes and your hair is thin, breaks easily and doesn't grow fast, you will need to  apply the hair mask 2 to 3 times per  week for 4 to 6 months.

As I am the later case, I have done the whole treatment for about 5 months and the results were astonishing. It all started when I noticed that my hair hadn't grown much for around half an year. It grew a bit, but compared to a friend of mine, who happened to have the same length as me 6 months ago, hers was than twice longer. So, I actually realised that my hair is not only thin and weak, but also it had started growing on a very slow pace. So, my mom told me about this mask and I decided to give it a go for couple of months and the results were amazing. Firstly, the most notable difference was the length. It grew around 20cm for 5 months and that was very impressive for me. Secondly, it became much fuller, healthier looking and shiny. And finally, noticabely decreased sebum production of the scalp, so the mask is very good for hair with oily roots.

Ingredients:
3-4 tbsp of Castor Oil (depending on the length of your hair)
2 eggs

How to do it?
Mix the oil with the eggs and apply to dry hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and then put a towel on top. Leave for 2 hours and wash with warm water and shampoo. The goal of the shower cap is to keep the towel clean, while the towel will keep the hair warm for the 2 hours. That way the hair benefits fully from the warm castor oil, as with most oils it is most nutritive when warm. After you are done with the treatment, your hair will be completely different - healthier, fuller, shinier and longer. You should maintain it with regular visits to the hair stylist and do the mask at least once per month.Do not hesitate to let us know what you think.

Top 3 Martha Stewart DIY Gift Ideas

I couldn't just help it! It is definitely my favourite website for DIY ideas. I have browsed through it so many times and each time I just love every single idea. However, I decided to pick up the top 3, based on simplicity to make, design and idea. There are some amazing ideas that were skipped, only because I find them way too hard for me to make.

At 3 I chose the homemade Body Scrub. I have personally made those in 2 different smells and colours. I made a citrus scrub by using orange and lemon essence oils and some yellow food colouring. I got the most amazing scrub ever. For the second one I used some blue food colouring and some mint and lavender essence oils. Simply amazing! I would never buy a scrub from a shop ever again! I really love the fact that you could download super cute labels from the Martha Stewart website. You can download the labels and read the full project here.

At 2 I chose the Bath Fizzies in a jar. They look so amazing and so easy to make. I really love the simplicity and the idea of using ice moulds for shaping the fizzies. She used simple cube ones, however, the variety of ice moulds is so huge that you could go crazy with different shapes and themes. Read the full project here.

And finally the best idea for me are the homemade Lip Balms. Initially, I wasn't very sure if this is actually easy to make, especially after seeing the photo. However, once I have tried it I was very impressed. It is so easy to make, literally from basic kitchen ingredients (except for the beeswax, that I had to order). The best part is, again, the fact that you can print the labels from the website and it looks very professional and yet personal. You can read the whole project here.

Natural Mint Lotion

An astringent breaks through the skin pores to constrict them, removes easily grease and oil pockets, it counterbalances surplus oil and tightens the skin. In general it has revitalising effect, gives a health glow to the skin and minimises pimples and blemishes. It a must have product for skin problematic skin and skin prone to acne.
Apple cider vinegar is very effective for treating pimples, acne and other skin problems. Mint contains vitamin A that strengthens skin tissue and helps reduce oily skin.

What do you need?
3 tsp of fresh mint
2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
250ml Distilled Water

How to make it?
Put in a sterile container (with a cap) the mint and the vinegar, close well and wait for at least one week. After one week, filter the solution and add 250ml of distilled water. Apply with a cotton pad to clean well the face.

Natural Clay Mask

Clay Masks have many benefits to the skin, especially skin that is prone to breakouts. A clay mask tightens sagging skin, stimulates the blood circulation and softens lines and wrinkles. Additionally, it absorbs excess dirt and oil and has a drying effect on oily skin, that is why is appropriate for normal and oily skin types. I find this mask very nourishing, as the egg provides a lot of protein, while the honey is a very effective moisturiser for the skin. The yogurt provides calcium, B-vitamins and zinc that are responsible for rejuvenating and promoting healthy skin. Finally the banana provides plenty of vitamin A, E and B for protection and bolsters the skin’s UV resistance.

What you need?
2 tbls Green Clay
1 tbls Yogurt
1 egg
1 tbls Honey
1/2 Banana

How to make it?
Mix the green clay with all other ingredients until you obtain. Apply on the face and neck and try to relax your muscles. Rinse after 20 minutes with water.

Lavender & Eucalyptus Body Scrub

This is one of my favourite handmade recipes, because it is very easy and quick to make. Most importantly, the difference is huge between this homemade scrub and any of the ones I have purchased.
Salt has natural relaxing and soothing properties, and it also helps circulation and exfoliates your skin.
Generally you can use any salt, I prefer sea salt or Epsom salt.
In this case I used sea salt that is available in any grocery store. The carrier oil is Sweet Almond Oil that is rich in Vitamin E and D and also in minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
After using the scrub, the skin feels very soft and smells of lavender and eucalyptus for hours.

What you need?
125g Sea Salt
30ml Sweet Almond Oil
Food Colouring
Lavender Essential Oil

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

How to make it?
Put the salt and the oil in a container and mix well. Add the food colouring and mix until the colour is even. Finally add the essential oils.
